A source on Capitol Hill has informed me of an amazing briefing today by a “Who’s Who” of industry lobbying groups (PNAE, CompeteAmerica, American Immigration Lawyers Association, FWD.us etc.), presented to congressional staff. The meeting was closed to the press, which is surprising at first — what lobbyist doesn’t want his/her message to be spread far and wide? — but the reason for excluding the press turns out to be quite startling.

The TITLE of the briefing says it all:  FACTS YOU CAN USE To Prove That High-Skilled Immigration Is Good for the Economy. Prove to whom? Since the “you” is the congressional staff, it’s clear that the briefing is intended to help politicians convince their skeptical constituents that H-1B is good for them. I assume there is nothing illegal in that, but it is incredibly sleazy.

He launched his war on coal with a promise that companies trying to build new coal-fired power plants would go bankrupt…

This cooling trend is unacceptable for their theory, funding and political needs, so NCDC simply alters the data to make it look like the US is warming.

They accomplish this transformation using a spectacular hockey stick of data tampering, which has skyrocketed since 1980, and is approaching two degrees.

Most of this post-1980 hockey stick appears to be due to loss of rural station data. They use an algorithm where missing temperatures are filled in with temperatures from other stations in the same general geographic area. The missing data is marked in their data set with an ‘E’

The Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, or AMO, is an ongoing series of long-duration changes in the sea surface temperature of the North Atlantic Ocean, with cool and warm phases that may last for 20-40 years at a time and a difference of about 1°F between extremes. These changes are natural and have been occurring for at least the last 1,000 years.

It is known to have significant climatic impacts on the Northern Hemisphere. According to NOAA:

• Recent research suggests that the AMO is related to the past occurrence of major droughts in the Midwest and the Southwest. When the AMO is in its warm phase, these droughts tend to be more frequent and/or severe (prolonged?). Vice-versa for negative AMO.
