So how’s that no guns thing working for you there Britain? Seems you are now on the brink of banning knives, since that’s the latest form of death by instrument currently being employed.

Teen Model Stabbed to Death in London Apartment

A teenage model who posed for Playboy and Cosmopolitan magazine was stabbed to death over the weekend just after moving into her own apartment.

Amy Leigh Barnes, 19, a Miss British Isles 2007 finalist, was found dead on Saturday morning just outside of Manchester, England.

A 21-year-old man was arrested 100 miles away later that day. The suspect, who was not identified, was taken back to Manchester and questioned by detectives Sunday night.

Ban the knives next and they’ll use rocks and sticks. Can’t wait.

Here’s today’s must read:

I left the country…

J. D. Pendry

I left the country. Do you like that tired old political cliché? I did not leave the party, the party left me. Well, I am just kidding because I only left the country to visit my Grandbabies that are a short 14 hour plane ride past Atlanta. America is my country. Unlike the Hollywood nitwits who all threaten to abandon America whenever someone other than the most unqualified and liberal candidate in the nation’s history is elected president, I will only abandon America for whatever follows this mortal life. Before, however, it was the Democrats and now it is the Republicans who have left me.

I congratulate my country for another peaceful change of leadership. It is the signature of the freest nation on earth – the freest for now. I congratulate President-elect Barack Hussein Obama. Unlike the unhinged left, there will be no personal disparagement of the President from here. It is however, open season on his wrong-headed ideas, policies and approaches to governing. The treatment of President Bush from the Democrats in Congress, liberals in general and the news media in particular has been disgraceful, period. The Office of the President of the United States and the person holding the offices deserves treatment with dignity. We do not have to like them, trust them or believe what they say, but we can challenge all of that in a dignified manner.

I blogged on this a little earlier. Mine was just the numbers. Here’s what it’s really all about:

Planned “Un-Parenthood” Strikes Again

The organization “Students for Life of America” has released yet another undercover video of a nurse at a New Jersey Planned “Un-Parenthood” facility describing how an abortion would be performed on a 22 week-old unborn child and admitting that some babies survive such abortions.  “It does happen,” the nurse said.

Well, here we are again with another or video ( demonstrating either the illegality (i.e., not reporting minor girls pregnant by adult men) or immorality of Planned “Un-Parenthood” Clinics.

In the SFLA’s video, the nurse explains the late-term abortion procedure to the pregnant woman, while the woman questions the nurse about the details.  “Is the baby alive?” asks the pregnant woman.  “Usually not,” the nurse replies.  The woman asks if the baby could be born alive, to which the nurse responds: “Usually, for the most part no, but it does happen.  It’s an actual delivery,” her explanation continues, “but it wouldn’t be able to survive on its own, so eventually the baby does die.”

Happy Birthday USMC

Happy 233rd birthday USMC.

May you have many more.

Here’s a juicy article that was printed in The Daily Mail. At least there is one news paper that has some sense of dignity and can still print the truth. You won’t find that here in America. This guy (Peter Hitchens) is dead on with this one.

The night we waved goodbye to America… our last best hope on Earth

Anyone would think we had just elected a hip, skinny and youthful replacement for God, with a plan to modernise Heaven and Hell – or that at the very least John Lennon had come back from the dead.

The swooning frenzy over the choice of Barack Obama as President of the United States must be one of the most absurd waves of self-deception and swirling fantasy ever to sweep through an advanced civilisation. At least Mandela-worship – its nearest equivalent – is focused on a man who actually did something.

I really don’t see how the Obama devotees can ever in future mock the Moonies, the Scientologists or people who claim to have been abducted in flying saucers. This is a cult like the one which grew up around Princess Diana, bereft of reason and hostile to facts.

It already has all the signs of such a thing. The newspapers which recorded Obama’s victory have become valuable relics. You may buy Obama picture books and Obama calendars and if there isn’t yet a children’s picture version of his story, there soon will be.

Proper books, recording his sordid associates, his cowardly voting record, his astonishingly militant commitment to unrestricted abortion and his blundering trip to Africa, are little-read and hard to find.

If you can believe that this undistinguished and conventionally Left-wing machine politician is a sort of secular saviour, then you can believe anything. He plainly doesn’t believe it himself. His cliche-stuffed, PC clunker of an acceptance speech suffered badly from nerves.  It was what you would expect from someone who knew he’d promised too much and that from now on the easy bit was over.

Go read the whole thing over at Navy Times.

Good stuff.

Swift and sure

One of the commandos tossed a pebble against the hut’s tin door — a traditional way visitors announce their arrival in rural Afghanistan.

The rattle of the stone against the door failed to rouse the guards. “They were both zipped up inside their sleeping bags, sleeping,” one behind the hostage on the floor of the darkened hut and the other outside, the engineer said. But their prisoner was awake and suddenly alert.

“I heard the latch rattling and somebody came in,” he said. “The first guy came in with a LED light, and I just presumed that somebody was coming to visit. I didn’t think of it anymore until the second guy came in and I saw the silhouette of the first fellow. Then I knew it was U.S. mil that was coming in. I don’t know how many guys actually came into the room, but it was soon filled up, and it was soon obvious that I was being rescued.
