The costly program is also $420 million underfunded, a shortfall equal to more than three years of city payroll, according to the city’s latest actuarial reports.Kamlarz’s hefty retirement pay was predictable. Three years ago, Mayor Tom Bates successfully persuaded his City Council colleagues to grant the city manager a series of raises to keep him on the job. As Bates pointed out then, Kamlarz could have collected just as much in retirement.The irony was that the raises didn’t solve the problem. Rather, they ensured that Kamlarz’s pension would increase by roughly a like amount whenever he finally walked out the door.As a result, whereas he could have left with a starting annual pension of $219,000 in January 2009, he left at the end of 2011 with 21 percent more a year for the rest of his life. The retirement pay also comes with annual cost-of-living adjustments.

“Obama has forsaken the cause of freedom and democracy in Russia and signaled that former Soviet space is now Russia’s playground. In return, he has received the makings of a new Cuban missile crisis in our hemisphere and all-out war in the Middle East.”
This man is going to make things really hard on America in the years to come. His inaction, followed by action that is deemed moronic at best will put America in jeopardy.
Not only is he taking away American freedoms one thing at a time, he’s putting us in danger on several fronts. Now America is once again having to look in three different directions; South America, the Middle East, and once again towards Europe, specifically in the direction of the former Soviet Union.
Obama’s Russian Disaster

The point of President Barack Obama’s much-ballyhooed “reset” of relations with Vladimir Putin’s Russia was simple: Get Russia to stop supporting American enemies and use its influence to reduce the threat of nuclear terror being rained down on the West by the world’s rogue regimes.
Obama was ready, willing, and able to betray Russian human rights activists by selling American values down the river in order do get this deal done, and he promptly gave them the cold shoulder. He was even willing to totally ignore Russia’s horrific problem of race murder and its invasion of tiny Georgia for imperial conquest.
Last week, Obama learned the wisdom of Ronald Reagan’s famous advice on Russia: “Trust, but verify.”

You probably missed it. But a new school of economics was unveiled last week shortly after health care reform passed the House of Representatives. Speaker Nancy Pelosi stepped to the podium in the House chamber and said the legislation will “unleash tremendous entrepreneurial power” and create millions of jobs. “Our economy needs something new, a jolt,” she said. And she and her Democratic colleagues had just delivered it.
Pelosi, author of the new departure in economic thinking, said we should now “imagine a society and an economy where a person could change jobs without losing health insurance, where they could be self-employed or start a small business.” With health care reform, “their entrepreneurial spirit will be unleashed.”

For many years I have bitched about unions. Unions are a pox on society.
At one time, they had their purpose. They succeeded in creating better working conditions for many, who would have had it rough otherwise.
Now though, they are not conducive to a stable economy. If anything, they are a reason why America is in the dire straits that it is in.
Here are a couple articles that discuss unions. Those people that belong to unions, should relook their membership. Whether they like it, or not, they are supporting everything that Democrats stand for.
If you are against abortion, you support it indirectly through your union.
If you are pro Second Amendment, you fight against it through your union.
If you consider yourself conservative in any way, shape, or form, your union is supporting everything that you stand against.
Why do we call them ‘public servants?’

Have you ever noticed the steps cities and states take to make our lives miserable in order to extract tax increases from us? When budgets are cut back because of fewer taxes, what goes first in the triage that politicians engage in? Libraries shut down early or are just closed or longer waits at drivers license bureaus, among other inconveniences.
We are also warned that fire and police forces will be cut back (invoking fear). The children are made to pay the price, too. Bands, sports, afterschool clubs all go by the wayside. Field trips become a nostalgia item. Students are forced to use old textbooks, falling apart at the seams. The PTA is asked to make up the shortfall and parents fees go up for an odd assortment of items.
Public workers unions have it backwards

Numerous articles and blog posts at American Thinker and elsewhere have begun to highlight the time bombs that are exploding state and federal budgets across our nation. These are the demands made on the public purse (and our wallets) by public employee unions who want to protect their gold-plated salaries, health benefits, and pension windfalls at all costs.
These unions are often behind secretive and shadowy efforts – such as the one in Illinois – to destroy the Tea Party because they see the people who want to restore fiscal sobriety and to protect their children from a life of penury as the enemy. The SEIU, for example, funded this anti-Tea Party website. Funds from unions, including from the public employee union Amercian Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), are pouring into political slush fund s for Democratic activists.

Survivor of Socialism Has Warning for America

The South Dakota Family Policy Council sponsored a speech tonight at First Assembly of God in Rapid City by Kitty Werthmann of Eagle Forum in South Dakota.
The presentation was entitled “Socialism vs Freedom” and was a part of the SDFPC “Heritage Under Attack” series.
Werthmann is the head of the South Dakota chapter of Eagle Forum, and was born in Austria. Werthmann lived for seven years under the Nazi rule of Austria, eventually coming to the United States in 1950 to become a naturalized citizen in 1962.
She said conditions in 1930’s Austria were very difficult. Unemployment was high, food was short, and many businesses were going bankrupt.

As we argued in a previous column, “It’s the communism, stupid.” If people don’t recognize the dangers of having a communist in the White House, then the nature of the scandal will not have been understood. Blogger Trevor Loudon of New Zealand broke the story on April 6 and has some thoughts on what happened and where this story is heading.

The Confidence Party

The resignation of Van Jones marks some sort of turning point. And the Democrats know this, consciously or not. One advantage Democrats have had over Republicans for some time is confidence. They are much more confident as a party, they make the stronger moves, and they thumb their noses at the opposition. And with the support of a compliant mainstream media, it seems to work.
But the Van Jones resignation suggests that Democrats may be losing that crucial characteristic which has made them a formidable political force, and the Republicans are gaining it.
