There are two different versions of the story of the end of the Cold War: the Russian version, and the truth. President Barack Obama endorsed the Russian version in Moscow last week.
Speaking to a group of students, our president explained it this way: “The American and Soviet armies were still massed in Europe, trained and ready to fight. The ideological trenches of the last century were roughly in place. Competition in everything from astrophysics to athletics was treated as a zero-sum game. If one person won, then the other person had to lose. And then within a few short years, the world as it was ceased to be. Make no mistake: This change did not come from any one nation. The Cold War reached a conclusion because of the actions of many nations over many years, and because the people of Russia and Eastern Europe stood up and decided that its end would be peaceful.”
The truth, of course, is that the Soviets ran a brutal, authoritarian regime. The KGB killed their opponents or dragged them off to the Gulag. There was no free press, no freedom of speech, no freedom of worship, no freedom of any kind. The basis of the Cold War was not “competition in astrophysics and athletics.” It was a global battle between tyranny and freedom. The Soviet “sphere of influence” was delineated by walls and barbed wire and tanks and secret police to prevent people from escaping. America was an unmatched force for good in the world during the Cold War. The Soviets were not. The Cold War ended not because the Soviets decided it should but because they were no match for the forces of freedom and the commitment of free nations to defend liberty and defeat Communism.
Obama is a moron, and he’s impulsive to boot. And you morons on the left thought Bush was a doofus. This guy beats the idiocy of Bush hands down and in spades. Asshat couldn’t make a sane decision if he was paid to do so! Oh wait, he is paid to do that, and thus far is a huge failure.
Today, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — presumably speaking for her boss — doubled down on supporting erstwhile Honduran president and would-be dictator José Manuel Zelaya Rosales (a.k.a. Mel Zelaya) instead of rule of law in Honduras:
A day after failing to land in Honduras to confront the interim government that ousted him in a coup, Zelaya boarded a plane bound for Washington, where U.S. officials said he would meet with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Zelaya told a news conference Monday night that he hopes to ensure U.S. support for diplomatic efforts to see him restored to power.
“Tomorrow we hope to get support for these pronouncements,” Zelaya said before heading to the airport in Managua.
Clinton and President Barack H. Obama superficially seem to be oblivious to the sequence of events that led to Zelaya’s arrest, removal from office, and voluntary exile… but are they really just misinformed? (The full timeline of events in Honduras make clear what really happened, which is the polar opposite of what our antique media tell us.)
I believe at first mere ignorance was exactly the problem: The first time the ongoing, fluid situation in Honduras was explained to Obama, I suspect that all he heard was, “Wugga-wugga liberal wigga wagga union supporter woggle boggle ousted by the military roggle doggle coup d’état.” He chose to stitch this muddle together into a narrative that reads, “The liberal, democratically elected President of Honduras was overthrown by a military junta.”
And well they should. Democrats put down an $800 billion bet and locked Republicans out of the room in placing it. They know their party and their President completely owns the results — and those aren’t looking good at all. And like any bad gambler, they want to double down on a lost hand:
Five months after Congress approved a massive package of spending and tax cuts aimed at reviving an ailing economy, the jobless rate is still climbing and the White House is scrambling to reassure an anxious public that President Obama’s prescription for economic recovery is on the right track.
Here’s another good article. This one deals with reparations for slavery. I think it is ludicrous at best, divisive and a race war waiting to happen should it come to pass. I personally never owned a slave. My parents didn’t own any, and neither did their parents or their parents either. That’s four generations alone. I think that covers a good chunk of time. I am pretty sure that anyone reading this was never a slave either. Nor were your parents, or their parents. That’s three generations. So, when slavery was an issue in this country, none of my relatives owned any slaves. As a matter of fact, none of my relatives were even in the country. Why in the bloody hell should I have to pay for something that my family had absolutely nothing to do with? In essence it is another tax on the working class that happens to be white.
During the election, despite having been portrayed as America’s first post-racial candidate, Barack Obama actually represented the complete opposite. With astonishing cunning and guile, a type that his opponents could have never imagined possible, Obama and his campaign unabashedly and tenaciously used race to goad Americans into believing that voting for him would right the wrongs of America’s racial history.
Obama audaciously rode on the coattails of black America’s historical circumstances in order to win the presidency. He deceived the nation into believing that he too was a “typical black person” and that a vote for him would offer a (painless) way for paying back all that whites had done to blacks and their ancestors. However, as one writer put it, “[Obama] steps into the benefits of black progress (like Harvard Law School) without having borne any of the burdens”. By polluting the election with the foul stench of payback politics, and by dumbing-down the “black experience” for the historically ignorant and apathetic, Barack Obama was able to win what I call the Reparations vote.
Oprah, a black woman, is the richest and most influential woman in America and possibly the world. Michael Jackson’s memorial service merited live coverage by a large number of television networks.
Did I mention that the president of the United States of America is a black man? With blacks only 13% of the U.S. population, none of these extraordinary black achievements could have happened without tremendous support from white America.
So, when will white America be off the hook for sins of the past? When will Democrat pitchmen and women, such as Janeane Garofalo, cease selling the myth that America is a racist country? When will Affirmative Action, which basically says blacks have been screwed in the past, so now it is fair to screw whites, end? When will so-called black leaders, such as Rev. Jeremiah Wright, quit poisoning the minds of blacks with hate and victim-hoodism by preaching that America is controlled by racist rich white people? What else has to happen for the “BIG LIE” to end?
Last month, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 26 “Apologizing for the enslavement and racial segregation of African-Americans.” The resolution ends with: “Disclaimer. — Nothing in this resolution (a) authorizes or supports any claim against the United States; or (b) serves as a settlement of any claim against the United States.” That means Congress apologizes but is not going to pay reparations, as least for now.
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus have expressed concerns about the disclaimer, thinking that it’s an attempt to stave off reparations claims from the descendants of slaves. Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Barbara Lee, D-Calif., said her organization is studying the language of the resolution and Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss, said “putting in a disclaimer takes away from the meaning of an apology. A number of us are prepared to vote against it in its present form. There are several members of the Progressive Caucus who feel the same way.”
On a more negative note, we bring back the Crap and Tax that was passed by the lemmings in Congress.
All of the assholes in Congress need to be fired. They are completely worthless and weak. Pathetic. The only interests they serve are their own.
Even the moron that “authored” the bill doesn’t know what the fuck is in the bill. Really? Good grief people! How the hell can you keep electing these morons?
I’m all for cap ‘n trade; it’s a nifty idea. Simply splendid. Positively stupendous. Brilliant beyond brilliant.
I just have a different take on the whole notion. I prefer very stringent caps on taxes and spending, coupled with a 2010 trade-in of the entire U.S. Congress.
What in holy tarnation do those people think they’re getting paid to do?
While these Roman throwbacks attempt to save the planet, pagan style, so they can set up their Darwinian nirvana on earth, the rest of us have enough sense not to try to make the state our church.
A liberal acquaintance couldn’t understand why conservatives are impatient with Obama. Didn’t conservatives get enough of a chance with 30 years of Reagan and Bush, he asked?
OK, it’s true that conservatives did get some tax-rate cuts. And we did win the cold war. And we did roll back one social program, welfare, a little, for a while.
But conservatives look on the Obama administration so far and say: Liberals are like the French Bourbons — the royal house of France, Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, deposed in the French Revolution.
Enough already with carbon cap and trade. I say let’s cap oxygen, and then tax any family that can’t achieve the Average Family Oxygen Target of 80% BOOTS (Before Obama Oxygen Trading Scheme). Remember, if you weren’t inhaling all that O2 you wouldn’t be belching out clouds of noxious CO2. Yuck. Yes, I know oil refineries smell bad and coal looks dirty. But none of that carbon would ever see the light of day if it weren’t for all the oxygen you suck in, you greed bucket. So let’s get down to root causes.
Here’s the goal. If we can only get five billion people around the world to breathe 20% less oxygen per person, we would Save the Planet from Global Warming. Just like that!
Twenty percent less O2 going into your body means 20% less CO2 out-gassing, atom-for-atom. It’s just like cutting down the world population by a billion polluting oxygen hogs.
The government of Honduras rightfully squashed the dictator wannabe and was deported by the military on orders from the Honduran Supreme Court and Congress for his violations of the law and the Constitution.
Obama has a love affair with Hugo Chavez and the Hondurans suffer.
Obama’s leftist proclivities are killing not only America, but other countries as well. This man must be stopped. He is a danger to society as we know it. The only way to stop the insanity is to vote out all the Democrats that are running in the 2010 elections. It is the only way that America will again be balanced and not hard left as it is now.
A leading member of the “Progressives for Obama” network is speculating, apparently with good reason, that the leftist governments of Barack Obama and Hugo Chavez have come to an understanding that Honduras should be turned over to anti-American forces allied with the Venezuelan communist ruler.
Tom Hayden, once known as Mr. Jane Fonda because of his marriage to the pro-communist actress, has written a piece for the Talking Points Memo website about “new diplomatic collaboration” between Obama-who swore an oath to represent American interests in foreign affairs-and Chavez, who represents the interests of Iran and the Castro brothers.
WASHINGTON–Accuracy in Media editor Cliff Kincaid today published some of the messages he has received from Hondurans upset at the international media’s pro-Zelaya news coverage. He called for thorough, balanced reporting of events in Honduras, rather than acceptance of the ousted leader’s explanation that he was deposed in a “military coup.”
“The so-called ‘military coup’ in Honduras was a successful effort by Honduran patriots to preserve their constitutional system of government from an international alliance of communists and socialists backed by Iran,” Kincaid wrote in a column published at aim.org.
I continue to receive messages from Honduran citizens upset at the international media for their distorted coverage of the situation in the Central American country. The people support the ouster of Manuel “Mel” Zelaya, who is considered a puppet of Venezuelan Communist ruler Hugo Chavez. They are mystified that an American president would want to return this Chavez puppet to power in Honduras.
One Honduran wrote: “The recent action taken by our Congress is highly supported by several organizations in support of peace and democracy: the State General Attorney, the Supreme Court, the Armed Forces, the private organizations and especially many young people. Mr. Zelaya broke the law on several occasions even after the Supreme Court stated that it was illegal. He had no respect for our laws and our Constitution.
It’s just an excuse to tax the hell out of everyone and make these assholes in Congress even richer.
Wake the hell up people. Global warming is not a man made issue. That big yellow ball in the sky has a lot to do with it. And the fact that the earth has cycles of warmth and cooling that it goes through. The earth has been in a cooling trend since 1998. Get off the crack people.
A team of scientists with years of expertise in climate issues has written an open letter to Congress asserting the “sky is not falling” and there is no evidence man is causing global warming.
The letter was signed by physics professors Robert H. Austin and William Happer of Princeton, environmental sciences professor S. Fred Singer of the University of Virginia, retired manager for strategic planning at ExxonMobil Roger Cohen, physics professor (emeritus) Harold W. Lewis at UC-Santa Barbara and others.
Their names are tied to long lists of initials, including APS, or the American Physical Society; AAAS, or the American Association for the Advancement of Science; and AGU, or the American Geophysical Union.
A Garden of Piggish Delights Waxman-Markey is part power-grab, part enviro-fantasy. Here are 50 reasons to stop it.
By Stephen Spruiell & Kevin Williamson
The stimulus bill was the legislative equivalent of the famous cantina scene from Star Wars, an eye-popping collection of the freakish and exotic, gathered for dubious purposes. The Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill, known as ACES (the American Clean Energy and Security Act), is more like the third panel in Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights — a hellscape that disturbs the sleep of anybody who contemplates it carefully.
Two main things to understand about Waxman-Markey: First, it will not reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, at least not at any point in the near future. The inclusion of carbon offsets, which can be manufactured out of thin air and political imagination, will eliminate most of the demands that the legislation puts on industry, though in doing so it will manage to drive up the prices consumers pay for every product that requires energy for its manufacture — which is to say, for everything. Second, it represents a worse abuse of the public trust and purse than the stimulus and the bailouts put together. Waxman-Markey creates a permanent new regime in which environmental romanticism and corporate welfare are mixed together to form political poison. From comic bureaucratic power grabs (check out the section of the bill on candelabras) to the creation of new welfare programs for Democratic constituencies to, above all, massive giveaways for every financial, industrial, and political lobby imaginable, this bill would permanently deform American politics and economic life.
The Green Nazi Hell and America’s Future?
By Mark Musser
By the time of the Nazi period, “blood and soil” had become hardened into a romantic nationalistic green ideology…
Some 100 years before the Nazis rose to power, German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) ominously wrote that “we owe the animals not mercy but justice, and the debt often remains unpaid in Europe, the continent that is permeated with Foeter Judaicus…it is obviously high time in Europe that Jewish views on nature were brought to an end…the unconscionable treatment of the animal world must, on account of its immorality, be expelled from Europe.”
That such words became prophetic under the umbrella of a secular religion of nature that was Nazi Germany, colored by an environmental totalitarian view during the 1930’s and 40’s, is a historical truth that has been underappreciated-and unreported-for too long.
Are Americans wising up to his shenanigans? It appears that Teh One is losing ground. There are now more Americans that “Strongly Disapprove” than those that “Strongly Approve” of him. It will be interesting to see how much his popularity continues to slide as we approach the new election cycle.
At any rate, here’s the American Thinker’s take on it:
Slowly, methodically, consistently, the reliable Rasmussen Poll has been tracking the most vital numbers of the Obama Presidency. General, soft numbers like “Do you approve of the way the president is handlings his job?” really mean nothing. In times of crisis, most people will answer “yes.” This is particularly true when a young articulate president who is splattered over every single magazine in every grocery checkout line with happy photos with his wife and kids, and when every tough question — both of them — in his press conferences is simply ignored.
It is not the soft, fluffy feelings about Obama that really matter. It is the intense feelings about him. Obama began his presidency with a lot of very enthusiastic support. About forty-five percent of Americans “strongly approved” of the job he was doing, while an anemic fifteen percent of Americans “strongly disapproved” of the job he was doing. In a couple of months, that gap between the “strongly approve” and “strongly disapprove” closed to a gap of between eight and ten points. The number who strongly approved glided down into the high thirties, while the number who strongly disapproved just about doubled, into the low thirties.
Been out for a bit. Household 6 had surgery and forced me into minimal, no, blogging for a bit. She is doing well. Sore, but getting around OK on her own.
And without further ado:
Speaking of medical procedures, the ObamaCare garbage will come to a head when his cronies on the left finally realize that Roe, where the government has no right to dictate to you or your doctor will be in complete loggerheads with each other.
Yeah, enjoy that government intervention on your behalf. Well, “Maybe this isn’t going to help. Maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller.”
Progressive Vagina Warriors will have a fit in 3…2…1.
Stated or unstated, a driving force behind modern liberalism takes root in the 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, in which abortion was legalized. The Court found a “right to privacy” guaranteed by the due process clause of the 14th Amendment, saying that a woman had a constitutional right to abort her child up until the “point at which the fetus becomes viable.” The Court quite specifically defined viability as the point at which a fetus is “potentially able to live outside the mother’s womb, albeit with artificial aid. Viability is usually placed at about seven months (28 weeks) but may occur earlier, even at 24 weeks.”
