On Arizona and Such… Monday, May 10 2010

Another excellent read from Victor Davis Hanson.

On illegal aliens:

How Could They Do That in Arizona!
The Arizona Hysteria
By Victor Davis Hanson

Racist! Nativist! Profiler! Xenophobe!

Write or say anything about illegal immigration, and one should expect to be called all of that and more—even if a strong supporter of legal immigration. Illegal alien becomes undocumented worker. Anti-immigrant replaces anti-illegal-immigration. “Comprehensive” is a euphemism for amnesty. Triangulation abounds. A fiery op-ed grandstands and deplores the Arizona law, but offers no guidance about illegal immigration — and blames the employer for doing something that the ethnic lobby in fact welcomes.

Nevertheless, here it goes from a supporter of legal immigration: how are we to make sense of the current Arizona debate? One should show concern about some elements of the law, but only in the context of the desperation of the citizens of Arizona. And one should show some skepticism concerning mounting liberal anguish, so often expressed by those whose daily lives are completely unaffected by the revolutionary demographic, cultural, and legal transformations occurring in the American Southwest.

As I understand the opposition to the recent Arizona law, it boils down to something like the following: the federal government’s past decision not to enforce its own law should always trump the state’s right to honor it. That raises interesting questions: Does the state contravene federal authority by exercising it? If the federal government does not protect the borders of a state, does the state have a right to do it itself? The federal government has seemed in the past to be saying that if one circumvented a federal law, and was known to have circumvented federal law with recognized impunity, then there was no longer a law to be enforced.

Arizona isn’t Laughing Obama… Saturday, May 8 2010

Obama is a moron, but we already knew this prior to the election. Unfortunately, 52% of the population drank the friggin’ Kool Aid.

Arizona is fighting back. Including fighting against the worst President that this nation has ever seen. Yes, Jimmy Carter was better. Go figure.

At any rate, check this out:

Students Kicked Off Campus for Wearing American Flag Tees
Freedom of expression or cultural disrespect on Cinco de Mayo?
By GEORGE KIRIYAMA

On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal’s office.

“They said we could wear it on any other day,” Daniel Galli said, “but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it’s supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today.”

The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts “incendiary” that would lead to fights on campus.

Illegal Aliens / Violence from the Left… Tuesday, May 4 2010

Illegal aliens, or their cousins were protesting in California, when all of a sudden, violence broke out. Hmm. What is that meme the MFM always spout? Oh, yeah, the lefty morons are all polite and shit, while the TEA party protestors are going to break into violence any minute now. Yeah, right!

Calif. immigrants’ rights march ends in vandalism
By JOHN S. MARSHALL

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Close to 20 businesses were damaged after what started as a peaceful immigrants’ rights march in downtown Santa Cruz turned violent, requiring police to call other agencies for help, authorities said.

Police spokesman Zach Friend said an estimated 250 people started marching through the city around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

It was a harmonious but “unpermitted and unsanctioned event,” he said, until some in the crowd started breaking windows and spraying paint on retail shops that line the downtown corridor.

Thousands across Bay Area protest AZ immigration law
by Lisa Amin Gulezian and Amy Hollyfied

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Tens of thousands of people across the Bay Area turned out in protest of Arizona’s tough new immigration law. The demonstrations went on all day and some stretched into the night.

In San Jose, thousands of marchers headed to an evening rally at city hall. In San Francisco, a separate demonstration wrapped up in the afternoon, but not without a bit of trouble.

Three people were attacked and at least two others were arrested. The people assaulted were part of the Minutemen demonstration, a group in favor of Arizona’s new immigration law.

They said a large group of immigrants’ rights supporters followed them to the BART station on Market Street and started punching and kicking them, and calling them names.

Arizona and Illegal Aliens Another Look… Sunday, May 2 2010

Peggy Noonan does an excellent piece in the WSJ. It is definitely worth the look. She looks at a root cause for the current mess we have at the borders, and why states, like Arizona are starting to take matters into their own hands.

The Big Alienation
Uncontrolled borders and Washington’s lack of self-control.
By Peggy Noonan

We are at a remarkable moment. We have an open, 2,000-mile border to our south, and the entity with the power to enforce the law and impose safety and order will not do it. Wall Street collapsed, taking Main Street’s money with it, and the government can’t really figure out what to do about it because the government itself was deeply implicated in the crash, and both political parties are full of people whose political careers have been made possible by Wall Street contributions. Meanwhile we pass huge laws, bills so comprehensive, omnibus and transformative that no one knows what’s in them and no one—literally, no one—knows how exactly they will be executed or interpreted. Citizens search for new laws online, pore over them at night, and come away knowing no more than they did before they typed “dot-gov.”

It is not that no one’s in control. Washington is full of people who insist they’re in control and who go to great lengths to display their power. It’s that no one takes responsibility and authority. Washington daily delivers to the people two stark and utterly conflicting messages: “We control everything” and “You’re on your own.”

Arizona Immigration Bill Kicks Illegal Alien Ass… Wednesday, Apr 14 2010

This one I like! There needs to be more of this!

Arizona Clears Strict Immigration Bill
By MIRIAM JORDAN

Arizona lawmakers on Tuesday passed one of the toughest pieces of immigration-enforcement legislation in the country, which would make it a violation of state law to be in the U.S. without proper documentation.

It would also grant police the power to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being illegal.

The bill could still face a veto from Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer. A spokesman for Ms. Brewer said she has not publicly commented on the bill. Ms. Brewer, a Republican, has argued for stringent immigration laws.

Under the measure, passed Tuesday by Arizona’s lower house, after being passed earlier by the state Senate, foreign nationals are required to carry proof of legal residency.

No Vote for Illegals… Wednesday, Apr 7 2010

This is probably the most sensible way to address illegal aliens that I’ve seen.

I like this better than any bullshit that either party has thus far proposed.

Make them legal resident aliens and not citizens. They don’t get to vote, but they become legal residents with all the privileges that comes with it, including paying taxes. They just don’t get to vote. That is the biggest issue I see in all this. Legalized aliens that are not citizens, don’t turn into an automatic voting block for Democrats and won’t ruin this country anymore than it already is.

Obama’s Greatest Crime
By Ralph Peters

President Barack Obama’s greatest crime against our flag and the republic for which it stands isn’t his administration’s health-care theft bill.  That’s mere shoplifting compared to what’s coming next.

Obama and the leftwing of the Democratic Party intend to turn ten to eleven million illegal immigrants into voters as expeditiously as possible, giving them a permanent national electoral majority based upon a beholden Lumpenproletariat.  If they succeed, our country will face mob rule.

No individual who broke the law to enter this country should ever be allowed to decide who becomes our president, governor, senator—or town council member.  If there is one message patriotic Americans must act upon during the remainder of Obama’s reign, it’s this: No voting rights for illegals.

No other issue of our time matters remotely as much—not our lukewarm struggle with Islamist terror or even our metastasizing deficits.  This isn’t about tax increases or where to hold terror trials.  It’s about preserving our democratic institutions for law-abiding citizens.

Inevitably, objections to handing immigration criminals the vote will be denounced as racist, anti-immigrant, inhumane and so on.  Unable to argue on logical grounds, the left will resort to savage name-calling.  And, of course, illegal immigrants will be compared to the legal immigrants of yesteryear, as if our laws are just burdensome annoyances that insist on silly distinctions.
