A Little Weekend Humor with a Serious Subject Sunday, Oct 18 2009

First the humor:

BELL-RINGER FIASCO DOESN’T DETER NOTED REVEREND FROM ENDORSING LIBERAL-BASHING BOARD GAME

On Monday morning, a man with both arms in a cast answered Reverend Damion Siggs Siksics’ want ad for a new bell-ringer. Because of the obvious handicap, Pastor Siksics dismissed the man’s pleas for the job until he insisted he could ring the bell loud enough by running into it with his forehead and nose. The curious, compassionate, and often rantingly optimistic minister gave the pathetic initiate all he really wanted—a chance. The rugged and resolute imbecile ran straight into the bell with his forehead and nose, and it rang so loud that hundreds of his parishioners heard it, and, thinking it meant some kind of special service, began making their ways to the church.

Unfortunately, the proud but accident-prone idiot hit the bell so hard that he bounced right out the bell tower window, screaming like a saint sent to hell by mistake, all 220 feet down to the cement courtyard below.

According to eyewitnesses, he lay writhing and groaning and bleeding as the slouching parishioners sauntered over. When Pastor Siksics got down from the tower, one of his followers asked him, “What’s going on here? Who is this man? What’s his name?”

The most deferential parson scratched his shock of red hair, recently dyed for the religious holidays, and said, “I honestly don’t know who he is. I forgot to get his name, but his face rings a bell.”

I stumbled on that after I read this:

Banning a game
By Robert Bowie Johnson, Jr.

//
In 1980, as young businessmen frustrated with government rules and taxes, my partner and I produced and marketed a board game called “Public Assistance: Why Bother Working for a Living?” We intended the game as a parody of government liberalism, with a special focus on the able-bodied loaferism, welfare fraud, and social chaos its domestic policies promote. Threatened by the game’s popularity, embarrassed liberals successfully implemented a nationwide government plan to “remove the game from the marketplace.”

We’ll first look at the game itself, then at the plan to ban it, and finally, at how the game and the banning of it relate directly to the goals of Barack Obama.

Obama Controls Your Television… Saturday, Oct 17 2009

Breitbart has a few pieces on the health care fiasco as well as other liberal views that the television networks will be peddling next week. There are three parts to this.

LEAKED NETWORK MEMO REVEALS: Obama Controls Your Television Set
by John Nolte

On September 10th of this year the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) posted a press release informing the world that “from October 19-25, more than 60 network TV shows [will] spotlight the power and personal benefits of service,” and that this “unprecedented block of TV programming is the first wave of a multi-year ‘I Participate’ campaign.”

On its face this all sounds rather benign in that silly, liberal do-gooder kind of way. The networks have launched these kinds of campaigns before and other than some clunky exposition awkwardly inserted into your favorite show to meet the mandate — no harm, no foul.

Part II: Obama Controls Your Television Set — Search and Ye Shall Find…Left-Wing Advocacy
by Stage Right

My ten-year-old daughter loves “So You Think You Can Dance.” I suspect most eight to eighteen-year-old girls do.  So, my question to the producers of this hit show is: “Why are you pointing my daughter to a web page asking her to work at Planned Parenthood?”

Next week the networks will coordinate their shows’ story-lines to promote volunteerism.  At the September 10 press conference in New York announcing this unprecedented message coordination, Ashton Kutcher got his famous Twitter feed displayed on the Times Square jumbo screen.  It said:  “2Day, I activate my citizenship by participating. I Participate! Do u? www.iparticipate.org.”  (Damn he’s good at this whole “Under 14o characters” thing.)

Part III: Obama Controls Your Television Set — Serve.gov or Serf.dom?
by Patrick Courrielche

National service and volunteerism is a top priority of both the President and the First Lady. A broad effort has been launched to promote this priority. We’ve seen this in the May 12th White House briefing, the August 10th and 27th art community conference calls, and now in a new effort by the Entertainment Industry Foundation, entitled iParticipate, that is encouraging broadcast media to infuse national service stories into their show plots. The First Lady has even created a video expressing the importance of national service.

Democrats Didn’t Get the Message… Saturday, Oct 17 2009

Remember all the wailing and gnashing of teeth in August? Apparently Congress doesn’t.

Grab your wallet, and then vote these fuckers out of office in 2010. That’s the only hope America has left. Revolutions cost a lot. I don’t want to have to go down that route. Secession? Maybe it can happen, but that would be a hard sell too. States opting out of the government takeover of the health care system? That is also possible I would imagine thanks to the 10th Amendment.

Either way, this is going to get uglier before it gets better. I guarantee it.

Democrats Go Nuclear on Health Care, Clearing Way for “Reconciliation” Path

Hmmm…

House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) held a hearing this morning to certify that H.R. 3200 — the main House Obamacare bill which was the subject of all the town hall rage in August — has met all requirements to pass as a “budget reconciliation” measure.

Under reconciliation, the bill can be passed by a simple majority vote in the Senate — just 51 votes — and will be given preferential treatment on the House floor as well. The Dems have apparently invoked the “nuclear option” to shut out Republicans and ensure the bill is passed before the end of the year.
