Daniel Gade nestled himself into the seat of his racing wheelchair, positioned his hands on the two large tires at his side and relied on his upper-body strength to propel the contraption forward.

He bowed his head to gain more speed as the three-wheeled chair glided down the pavement during a training session at Sandy Creek Park this past week.

The 34-year-old makes it look effortless, though he admits that this has become his latest challenge.

Gade gladly accepts each new hurdle that comes his way, facing his obstacles head-on while recognizing how far he has come in the last 41/2 years.

But Spencer’s helplessness turned to empowerment. Cockrell wiggled free and negotiated with the robbers giving them the keys to the store and the codes to the company safe. The robbers discussed the couple’s fate and decided to kill them.
