That Was Then, This is Now…

The current furor over the three water-boarded terrorists is right out of the old Greek idea of excess leading to hubris leading to nemesis leading to destruction. Do we really wish to revisit 2002?

In that seminal year 2002-remember Bali, the intifada bombings, the 800 Russian hostages, John Lee Mohammad, Jose Padilla, the Buffalo Six al-Qaedists, and the lingering fumes from Richard (”shoe-bomber”) Reid and the anthrax letters?-Democrats were chest-thumping about keeping us safe. To be fair, everyone was. Bush had a 62% approval rating, and gained in the mid-term elections that hinged on matters of national security. The new Department of Homeland Security was having us remove shoes and throw away liquids from our carry-on luggage.

“If you’re wondering why the president is in a good mood, it’s because he’s glad to be finished with his annual physical. During his colonoscopy doctors removed two benign polyps and the White House Press Corps.”

Comedian Wanda Sykes headlined Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C., and, like some of her predecessors, walked a tightrope without a net – the difference being that her rope was only three inches off the ground.

The White House correspondents’ dinner traditionally features a headlining comedian who usually makes jokes at the expense of the president and/or his staff who are looking on helplessly like sitting ducks. The most cutting of these in recent memory were Stephen Colbert in 2006, and Don Imus ripping apart the Clintons back in 1996.

Obama, the dumbass in chief, continues to reap what he has sown. I am sure that his little memo leak will haunt him until he is out of office, if not longer. He’s trying to plug the hole he blew in the dam, but it won’t help.

Obama to Brits: Talk and we’ll cut you off

After the Obama administration released the OLC memos on enhanced interrogation techniques, our British allies must have figured that the US would not object to publicizing the techniques used on Binyam Mohamed, now in the UK after being released from Guantanamo Bay.  Barack Obama clarified his position on exposing intel techniques in a letter to the Brits that more or less told them to do what he says, and not what he does.  Eli Lake reports that Obama threatened to cut off cooperation between American and British intelligence if a British court publishes a seven-paragraph memorandum outlining Mohamed’s treatment:

“If it is determined that [her majesty's government] is unable to protect information we provide to it, even if that inability is caused by your judicial system, we will necessarily have to review with the greatest care the sensitivity of information we can provide in the future.”

Duty takes three sons far off; love keeps them close

Karmen Callaway dropped off her three sons at the National Guard Armory in Covington, where teary men and women embraced one last time in early morning light.

Karmen was not allowed to linger. Go home, her uniformed sons ordered, knowing that saying goodbye would be especially tough for their mother.

She had felt the sting of this moment before when, just a week after Mother’s Day in 2005, she sent her two oldest sons, Ryan and Jared, off to Iraq.

This time, they were taking their younger brother Seth with them, to the unforgiving mountains and valleys of Afghanistan, where they will serve for a year in the same unit, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment.

From Covington, where Company B is based, the Callaway boys left for six weeks of training at Camp Shelby, Miss., in March. They will deploy later this month.

Karmen, 46, is proud of her sons’ love for their country. She knows it is part of their heritage. But there’s no denying today is another Mother’s Day blemished. By longing, anxiety, uncertainty.

I often wonder why the left always cringes in horror at the thought of water-boarding a couple Islamo-fascists, other than the fact that they are fascists themselves, there seems to be no other reason than to undermine the ability of America to defend itself and others as has been demonstrated over and over again.

America has been one of the few countries on this planet that tries, almost to a fault, not to inflict unnecessary casualties in war. Since the Gulf War, our collateral damage and killing of innocent life has been dramatically low. It still happens occasionally, but war is hell, after all.

War is Hell

Sherman was right:  War is Hell.  The current war against the Judeo-Christian world waged by al-Qaida and other radical Moslems is no different.  War is Hell and Hell is full of torments.  Our role, as children of a Loving God, is to make that Hell and those torments as quick, as slight, and as limited as possible.  But it is not our power to end pain, to make peace, or to stop torture.

We cannot stop a Holocaust without inflicting pain.  We cannot end the Gulag without hurting people.  We cannot free slaves without the horror of civil war.  We can be silent, passive, and helpless in the face of evil, and, perhaps, survive.  But we cannot stop evil without fighting evil, and that battle cannot be conducted without hurting people.

Liberal fascism is what we have now. Obama is the true Hitlerite. Calling George Bush Hitler, was a ruse that the left employs constantly to its advantage. The true fascists are the liberals in America. Just look at the policies of the left and compare them to Hitler and his “change” that was called for in Germany. It is chillingly similar to Obama and his minions.

Don’t be a sucker for Obama, or the left’s ways. It will kill America if you let it.

When Saul Alinsky began building his community-organization movement in 1930s Chicago, observers were watching Alinsky with one eye, while with the other eye observing the building of communist and fascist movements in Europe.  It wasn’t hard then to see in Alinsky’s programs at home, elements of the people’s revolution from Russia, as well as some of the same “in your face” tactics being employed by Hitler’s Brownshirts.

What Alinsky’s critics saw was the burgeoning of a national movement, the carefully manipulated construction of people’s organizations, which all had two elements in common:  (1) a collectivist creed, which denied the existence of personal responsibility; and (2) an amoral dogma, in which all means were justified by an imaginary utopian end.
