Today’s Reading List Tuesday, Apr 14 2009

Today’s reading list:

Federal agency warns of radicals on right

The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in “rightwing extremist activity,” saying the economic recession, the election of America’s first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.

The United States of Gimme, Gimme, Gimme

Several years ago, I wrote a column which asked a simple question. Should paying taxes be a requirement of citizenship? In particular, I was referring to federal income taxes. If every single American expects to share in the benefits of being an American — freedom, protection, education, etc. — shouldn’t every American be required to contribute to the cause?

Everyone Should Pay Income Taxes

If you thought Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme was bad, wait until you hear about the inverted pyramid scheme the federal government is working on. While Mr. Madoff preyed on people who trusted him with their money, the federal government has everyone’s money, and the implications of its actions are worse.

Kyle-Anne Shiver: Moral Education for the New Order

The Rasmussen folks last week revealed a poll wherein American young people are just about evenly divided on whether they prefer capitalism to socialism.  Among our under-30 crowd, 37% prefer capitalism, 33% socialism, and 30% are undecided.

Sucking at the teat of the state has never looked so good, apparently.

Well, this certainly helps explain Obamamania.

Tie this purely disgusting finding to last year’s Josephson Institute Report Card on the Ethics of American Youth, which determined levels of lying, cheating and stealing among high school students, and you’ll see a very disturbing pattern of moral erosion.

Mike Adams: Dealing With Disruptive Veterans

Pennsylvania State University has stepped in it. In fact, they’ve stepped in it to the tops of their combat boots. A video was recently posted on the Penn State website for the ostensible purpose of helping professors deal with disruptive students. But its negative and stereotypical portrayal of veterans has provoked well-deserved outrage from citizens everywhere.

In the video, an instructor pays a visit to her department head indicating that she is still having a problem with a student. The department head responds eerily, asking whether the referenced student is “the veteran.” She indicates that, yes, it is “the veteran.”

Chuck Norris: Time for TEA and a Fair Tax

Teatime, anyone? I hope you’ve joined one of the thousands of TEA (Taxed Enough Already) parties or FairTax rallies, which are happening across the country April 15 to protest outrageous government spending, the deepening of our national debt, and the subsequent taxes. This is a nonpartisan time to rally around like-minded citizens and declare that we’re tired of the same old political rhetoric and that we want a better way.

I completely agree. I think that both the CBC and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus are racist. In fact, I think that the majority of racism in America comes from these two groups of Americans. Prove me wrong.

Dennis Prager: Time for Congressional Black Caucus to Disband?

There was never a good reason for any members of Congress to create a group whose sole criterion for membership was race (or ethnicity in the case of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus). The CBC is so color-based that even congressmen representing majority-black districts who are not themselves black (such as Rep. Stephen Cohen, D-Tenn.), who applied for membership) are not allowed to be members. Such a group, if it existed anywhere else in America, would properly be declared racist and would be either legally or morally forced to shut down.

Richard N. Weltz: Are You Better Off Today?

In his closing remarks during the final presidential debate of 1980, Ronald Reagan famously asked the American people: “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”

Things are moving a more rapid clip, so perhaps it would be appropriate today to ask if we are better off today than we before control of Congress changed hands in the last two years of the Bush administration and a new president was inaugurated last January.

Let’s Give Everyone A Gun…

The Second Amendment Foundation, and their publication, “The New Gun Week,” are the most informative and timely sources of information on gun issues I have found, and I highly recommend both.

Recently they released the news that 65 Democrats–members of Congress–sent a joint letter to Attorney General Eric Holder that they would not support any form of assault weapon legislation the new administration proposed to push.

Homicide Statistics… Tuesday, Apr 14 2009

I was looking at homicide statistics for 2007, just for shits and grins, and noticed an interesting trend.

The perpetrator of the homicide based on age and race trend is what caught my eye.

At ages 9-12 it’s about even with white and black commission of homicides. At age 13 there is a rather significant jump, almost double of blacks over whites committing the crime. Ages 17-19 it seems to have the same trend, double by black individuals. Are the differences here gang related? That would be my theory.

From 20-24 it seems to level off a bit and the whites catch up a bit, in fact, it is almost even again. Then from 25-29 the trend drops in both, but the difference is again about the same as the last group. Is this due to fewer gang members in this age range?

From age 30-34 it seems that whites have passed up the blacks in homicide. That trend continues all the way into the 75 and over category.

Now remember, homicide is counted as a homicide even for self defense. Are the older white dudes killing more in self defense as the age progresses? Are the older whites more likely to own a gun for self defense?

Are the fewer black homicides in the later years a direct result of these blacks being less likely to be in gangs, likely more successful and likely home owners, and also more likely to be self defense?

Another interesting thing about this report is that it doesn’t list Hispanics as a category. Are they listed in the “Other” category with Asians, or are they lumped in with the whites as “White Hispanic”? What gives? 30% of the inmates in California are Hispanic. Why are they left off as a group?

Questions abound…

Right Wing Extremist… Tuesday, Apr 14 2009

I must be one of the extremists in the report. I plan on attending a tax day tea party. I own several guns. I buy ammo at all opportunities. I hate illegal immigration. I think abortion is murder. I voted for Prop 8. I am right wing.

I personally don’t give a shit that America elected its first HALF black president. In fact, I think that the majority of the idiots that voted for this socialist douche bag are racists, and are absolutely clueless as to the policies that this shit bag wants enacted. That’s just my opinion.

I’m extremist alright. Come get me bitches. I’ll stack you fuckers like cord wood.

I believe in individual freedom. I can’t stand the collective mind set of socialists. I refuse to accept the idea that capitalism has failed. The only failure here was government intervention. It wasn’t needed.

Socialism has failed more often than not. Capitalism is why America is so envied throughout the world. Our freedoms are unequaled around the globe.

It’s funny how the socialist leaders in the world all come running to America to get their health care. Maybe not all, but there sure are a lot that do. Why is that?

The problem with America today is that there is 25% of the populace that have lost all touch with morality. Their morals suck, and the Democrats represent them. There is another, at least, 25% of Americans that are clueless about the issues and don’t bother to pay attention to anything unless it is reported on their TV by a biased source.

I just seem to be rambling today. I am tired of the BS. This report came out in light of the fact that Americans are tired of being taxed to death, and are now going to protest in large numbers, and the majority of them will be right leaning in their politics. This report was meant to denigrate those that intend to go to these rallies. Me, my wife and son, will be at a rally on the 15th. Guess what? It’s after work too. I personally would have taken a day off if I had to in order to participate.

I hope you attend a rally near you. Let Washington know that enough is enough! Taxed enough already! (T.E.A.)

You Democrats that think the right wing in America is dead have a rude awakening in store for you in the 2010 elections. Most Americans aren’t stupid and will realize the huge error they made in electing a Democrat Congress and President in the same cycle.

Federal agency warns of radicals on right

The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in “rightwing extremist activity,” saying the economic recession, the election of America’s first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.

A footnote attached to the report by the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines “rightwing extremism in the United States” as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.

Confirmed: The Obama DHS hit job on conservatives is real

Yesterday, Roger Hedgecock and the Liberty Papers posted an unclassified DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis report titled:

The “report” (PDF file here) was one of the most embarrassingly shoddy pieces of propaganda I’d ever read out of DHS. I couldn’t believe it was real.

I wonder if the FBI is going to have enough agents to cover all the tea parties scheduled for tomorrow?

It was easier to keep track of us crazy right-wing (or is it rightwing?) fanatics in the old days. I can recall going to several demonstrations at the Islamic Center in Washington, D.C. back in early 1980 to protest against the Iranians holding our diplomats (they wouldn’t let us any closer to the shuttered Iranian embassy). Working the outskirts of the crowd with their cameras were two or three guys whose clothing and demeanor screamed “Feds!.” They took pictures of everyone in the crowd of about 200 and then got in their dark sedans and left. No doubt, on some old fashioned microfiche somewhere in the bowels of FBI headquarters, there are images of a young me, face twisted in anger, shaking a fist at a burning effigy of Ayatollah Khomenei. (In fact, there is an inset picture of me doing exactly that on the contents page of a Newsweek from that period.)

Today’s Reading List Monday, Apr 13 2009

Today’s must read. If you are one of those “hope and change” people, you might want to read this. Also, you might want to read up on the foundations of America. America was built on the fundamental principle of freedom. Socialism is not freedom. It isn’t even close. I blame the last Republican and his cohorts in the Congress. They were hell bent on gaining power, even if it meant sacrificing the principles for which they were elected. Now the idiots that be, the Democrats and Obama are carrying this too far to the left.

Bobby Eberle: Socialism vs. Capitalism… And the Winner is…

America is a great nation, not by luck or chance or geography, but because of the American spirit… the belief that we can accomplish anything if we work hard. Those who fought to create this new country believed in limited government with unlimited potential for its citizens. Capitalism was the key. By letting free markets work and keeping government out of the way, Americans have the opportunity to grow as much as their drive, determination, and intellect will take them. That is the American way.

Socialism

Mona Charen: Useful Idiots Caucus

Six members of the Congressional Black Caucus traveled to Cuba last week and were delighted with their reception. They met with Raul Castro for four hours (including dinner). Three lucky members of the delegation were even entertained by Fidel at his home. As the Miami Herald reported, the representatives found Castro, to be “very engaging, very energetic … very talkative.” Imagine. The dictator known for his five-hour speeches. Who could have guessed?

Idiots

Michelle Malkin: CBC: Congressional Bootlickers for Castro

Congressional Black Caucus Democrats went to Cuba to see what they wanted to see. Not since The New York Times reporter Walter Duranty traipsed around Stalin’s Russia, filing cheery travelogues whitewashing Communist-engineered famine, has America witnessed such disgraceful propaganda tourism.

David Limbaugh: A Christian Nation?

President Barack Obama said in Turkey: “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.”

Charles Krauthammer: It’s Your Country Too, Mr. President

WASHINGTON — In his major foreign policy address in Prague committing the United States to a world without nuclear weapons, President Obama took note of North Korea’s missile launch just hours earlier and then grandiloquently proclaimed:

Instead of drilling, Obama tilts at green windmills

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar this week in New Jersey said that windmills off the East Coast could generate enough electricity to replace all the coal-fired power in the United States. In response, Thomas Pyle, president of the Institute for Energy Research, told the D.C. Examiner that, “Secretary Salazar is living in Fantasy Land.” According to Pyle, “We would need to install 309,587 giant turbines – about 172 turbines per mile of coast – and hope the wind blows 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Rachel Marsden: French Workers Shut Down Eiffel Tower: A Preview Of Socialism

A Rasmussen poll here in America has just found that only 53% Americans prefer capitalism to socialism. Care to see what the alternative looks like?

“Strike closes Eiffel Tower; worker’s demands not known,” read the headline of a Canadian Press story this week. Apparently 500 people who work in the city’s largest tourist attraction all just walked off the job. No one even needs an excuse not to work in France anymore. Coming up with things like “demands” takes work and effort. And why bother going through the rigmarole of requesting time off, jockeying for prime vacation days with your colleagues, or even notifying your boss of your absence when they could have it so much worse and really should be so lucky that you just decided not to show up.

Socialism vs. Capitalism

James Lewis: Obama, Obushma, hey, what’s the difference?

OK, conservatives, here’s a plan.

Big deal, we lost the election. (Twice — once for the GOP nomination, and once for the presidency).

The solution? Coopt the Obamunistas.

How? We’ve got the biggest ally in the world, called Reality. It’s a place conservatives know well, because we live there. What’s scary about Obamunismo is that its followers talk as if they don’t live in Reality. Sometimes they even act that way. But nobody can act against Reality for long without getting a lot of bloody noses.

Monte Kuligowski: Obama’s ‘Christian Nation’

President Obama is taking a fair amount of heat from conservatives for his recent comments in Turkey in which, speaking for Americans, he said that, “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation; we consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.”

Victor Sharpe: Today’s Mad, Mad, World

The other day I happened to watch the original 1963 Stanley Kramer directed movie, “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

46 years later, that title seems frighteningly apt when looking at what the world has become. Stanley Kramer would have been hard put to recognize how prescient his title was. But his film was essentially a comedy of errors; today the world is reduced to a tragic-comedy with a terrifying emphasis on the tragic.

Taxes, Taxes and more Taxes… Monday, Apr 13 2009

As it stands, my family of three will be paying $220,388 over the next 30 years to pay for the socialist agenda. Here’s how it works out:

$11,624 Billion / 306 Million Americans = $38,013 X 3 = $114,039 (my family’s portion)

But WAIT! You said you have to pay $220,388! You lied!

Well, no, not really. Here’s how that works out:

$15,600 current income tax + $7,346 income tax increase = 47% increase

That’s $220,388 over 30 years at 5% interest.

Congress and Obama really suck.

Bobby Eberle: Taxes and Tea Parties: America Gets Ready to Rumble

This week, Americans will not only be rushing to the post office to pay their taxes, but they will also be sending a message to Barack Obama and the left-wing elite in Washington that enough is enough. April 15th marks the day that people from across the country will gather for the Tax Day Tea Parties — a protest movement against the out of control spending in Washington and the increased taxes that will pay for it.

Guns… Thursday, Apr 9 2009

The focus is guns. Either pro, or anti, it is the focus as of late. Since that is the case, it will be my focus for a bit as well.

Here’s an interesting stat:

Florida adopted a right-to-carry law in 1987. Between 1987 and 1996, these changes occurred:

Florida United States
homicide rate -36% -0.4%
firearm homicide rate -37% +15%
handgun homicide rate -41% +24%

Assault weapons were involved in less than 1% of homicides before the assault weapons ban took effect in 1994.

More gun legislation isn’t going to stop the 1% of morons that go on killing sprees. Ask Washington, D.C. how all that gun control has worked out for them.

Ask Chicago how their gun legislation has worked out for them as well.

Ann Coulter: Let’s All Surrender Our Weapons — You First!

The rash of recent shooting incidents has led people who wouldn’t know an AK-47 from a paintball gun to issue demands for more restrictions on guns. To be sure, it’s hard to find any factor in these shootings that could be responsible — other than the gun.

So far, this year’s public multiple shootings were committed by:

– Richard Poplawski, 23, product of a broken family, expelled from high school and dishonorably discharged from the Marines, who killed three policemen in Pittsburgh.

– Former crack addict Jiverly Wong, 41, who told co-workers “America sucks” yet somehow was not offered a job as a speechwriter for Barack Obama, who blockaded his victims in a civic center in Binghamton, N.Y., and shot as many people as he could, before killing himself.

– Robert Stewart, 45, a three-time divorcee and high school dropout with “violent tendencies” — according to one of his ex-wives — who shot up the nursing home in Carthage, N.C., where his newly estranged wife worked.

– Lovelle Mixon, 26, a paroled felon, struggling to get his life back on track by pimping, who shot four cops in Oakland, Calif. — before eventually being shot himself.

– Twenty-eight-year-old Michael McLendon, child of divorce, living with his mother and boycotting family funerals because he hated his relatives, who killed 10 of those relatives and their neighbors in Samson, Ala.

During that time, student performance in CPS remained static or fell even further behind the national average. Every old ideological conflict eventually becomes new again. So it is with today’s battle between the forces of socialism, called “fairness” by its advocates, and the forces of capitalism, labeled “liberty” by its supporters. What we are witnessing is an ancient struggle between those who believe in the rights of the individual and those who believe in a sort of “general will.” Those of conservative bent ardently hope for a second American Revolution; those of the left wish desperately for a second French Revolution.

New Gallup Poll: No New Gun Control!

While the poll was taken just before the shooting at the NY immigration center, it did follow a small number of other high profile shootings, so I think the results speak for themselves. From Gallup.com:

In Gallup polling conducted prior to last week’s gun massacre at an immigrant center in Binghamton, N.Y., only 29% of Americans said the possession of handguns by private citizens should be banned in the United States. While similar to the 30% recorded in 2007, the latest reading is the smallest percentage favoring a handgun ban since Gallup first polled on this nearly 50 years ago.

Michelle Malkin: Who’s using the military as a “global propaganda machine” now, AP?

The Associated Press has really outdone itself. Just look at this headline:

Analysis: Obama achieves defining TV shot in Iraq

It’s a drool-drenched piece on Obama’s masterful “achievement” – manipulating a politically expedient photo op with the troops in Baghdad. The AP “analysis” – or rather, adjunct public relations release – praises Obama for creating an image that will help him politically:

“A Jaw Dropping Spectacle”

Is how Camille Paglia, in Salon, describes Obama’s bow to the “Custodian of the two Holy Mosques.”

Obama bows.

Paglia urges Obama to get himself a Chief of Protocol and learn some manners. And, in impressive defiance of the MSM coverage embargo, she actually comments on Obama’s stonewalling on his birth certificate and education records.

David Hardy: Thoughts on “active shooters”

The manager of South East Area Law Enforcement has some thoughts, of which the most relevant are:

“Where times have been reliably documented, the average post-Columbine “rapid mass murder episode” lasts just 8 minutes, according to Borsch’s calculations. “The murderer’s timeline begins when he says it begins. Any prevention, deterrence or delay efforts have failed at that point, and the police are handicapped with catching up whenever they are notified.”

Brady Bunch Agenda… Wednesday, Apr 8 2009

The Brady bunch consistently lies about statistics and generally uses high profile murders to push their agenda. Problem is, they lie and Americans are fed their propaganda through the media, who is on their side, so forget about any balance on this issue. It will always slant their way, but time and again they are proven wrong, and it is up to individuals, bloggers, and honest news agencies, to report the truth. Don’t let them steal your liberty.

Words of wisdom and LOGIC!

Some great folks have came from Texas, and I know a few them personally.

Ted Nugent, the ROCK STAR, has an activist streak in him that is unrivaled, He has stated the obvious to many, and has been ridiculed by those “over educated, sensitive faux intellectual types” His latest writing sums it up nicely!

DON’T TED ON ME

Border security and gun control? No problem here. Got both. In fact, I have virtually perfected both culture war issues at Ground Nuge to the point of untouchable. You see, even though I am just a guitarplayer, these are the tip-o-the-spear culture war lies I have railed against for more than forty years. I control my borders and I control my guns. Wild huh.

Take for example the fact that the Nugent property has never been invaded, for we, like all life loving, law abiding Americans we know, have sent out a loud and clear message that even mentally deficient felon wannabes understand without pushing 1 for English-Invade my home and I will kill you. Case closed. No invasions and no one killed. Perfect.

…….
• 98% of active killers act alone.

  • 80% have long guns, 75% have multiple weapons (about 3 per incident), and they sometimes bring hundreds of extra rounds of ammunition to the shooting site.
  • Despite such heavy armaments and an obsession with murder at close range, they have an average hit rate of less than 50%.
  • They strike “stunned, defenseless innocents via surprise ambush. On a level playing field, the typical active killer would be a no-contest against anyone reasonably capable of defending themselves.”

Today’s Reading List… Tuesday, Apr 7 2009

Today’s reading list:

Bada Bing

‘Hey, nice company ya got there. It would be a shame if anything were to, ya know, happen to it.’

“These are complicated companies,” one CEO said. Offered another: “We’re competing for talent on an international market.”

But President Barack Obama wasn’t in a mood to hear them out. He stopped the conversation, and offered a blunt reminder of the public’s reaction to such explanations. “Be careful how you make those statements, gentlemen. The public isn’t buying that.”

“My administration,” the president added, “is the only thing between you and the pitchforks.”

ABC News Touts Gun Control, Hypes Special Firearms

On Monday’s “Good Morning America,” reporter David Muir highlighted a rabidly pro-gun control group as an expert on weapons, without referencing the organization’s political stance. The journalist also promoted “If I Only Had a Gun,” an ABC special to air Friday night that seems to argue for tighter restrictions on firearms. During a segment on the tragic shootings in Pittsburgh and New York, Muir featured a clip from Michael Wolkowitz, who is a member of the board of trustees for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

Deep Thoughts, By Katie Couric

Background checks are meant to keep criminals from owning guns, but just about anyone can walk into a gun show and buy a weapon from a private dealer, no questions asked.

Texas State Senator Glenn Hegar discusses state sovereignty

Taking time out between committee meetings, Texas State Senator Glenn Hegar sat down to talk about his state sovereignty resolution (SCR 39) now being considered by our legislature.

Senator Hegar, who lives in Katy, is a sixth generation Texan who farms land that has been in his family since the mid-1800s. He represents Texas Senate District 18, which stretches from central Texas south/southeast to the Gulf Coast, encompassing 18 counties plus the western half of Fort Bend County. Although the youngest state senator, Hegar has already received many awards for his leadership in reducing government spending and has earned leadership positions on numerous standing committees, as well as being appointed Chairman of the Legislative Sportsman’s Caucus.

Leo Rennert: President Obama, King Abdullah, and the end of Israel

During the G-20 summit in London, Barack Obama took time out for a brief meeting with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia caught on video by two cameras, and by a still photographer, where the U.S. president bowed deeply in greeting the Saudi monarch. No major American media paid any attention to the startling, unreciprocated bow, gesture of subservience.

Stuart Schwartz: We are all anti-Semites now

“We are all socialists now”  Newsweek famously declared in a February issue this year, letting the nation know that our Knowledge Elites — the cultural establishment that dominates higher education, media, government and entertainment, and collectively fancies itself the agenda setter for the rest of us — is now officially backing the statist horse in the economic race. Good bye free market, hello socialism.  Why? Because we say so. Call them the Knowledge Elites (KE’s), who use position and information to shape our culture. Socialism has become trendy — witness Harvard’s recent conference devoted to trashing the free market, or the Obama administration’s war on the private sector. ‘Correct’ thinking influences corrective behavior and, in tandem, the culture.

Rich Galen: Hold Off on the Crown and Tiara

Democrats are busily scheduling a ceremony to continue the Administration’s designs on undoing the U.S. Constitution even more and coronate King Barack and Queen Michelle upon their return from their European concert tour.

They are soooo popular over in Europe. Michelle is soooo stylish. Barack is soooo smooth. Europeans are swoooooning over the visit.

Dick Morris and Eileen McGann: The Declaration Of Independence Has Been Repealed

On April 2, 2009, the work of July 4, 1776 was nullified at the meeting of the G-20 in London. The joint communiqué essentially announces a global economic union with uniform regulations and bylaws for all nations, including the United States. Henceforth, our SEC, Commodities Trading Commission, Federal Reserve Board and other regulators will have to march to the beat of drums pounded by the Financial Stability Board (FSB), a body of central bankers from each of the G-20 states and the European Union.

Phyllis Schlafly: College Student Alert: Beware of One-Party Classrooms

How can we explain continued public support for Barack Obama’s extremist spending plans, even though it is painfully obvious that his much-touted “remaking America” means mortgaging the financial future of young people with trillions of dollars in debt? Are the American people really willing to let the government be our nanny, manage our economy, federalize our schools, and decide which businesses can keep their doors open, what health care will be permitted, who will get new jobs and how extravagant will be the foreign handouts as Obama “rejoins the world community”?

Mona Charen: Apologizing for America

One of President Obama’s first official acts was to grant an interview to Al Arabiya, the Arabic language network that broadcasts worldwide. It signified, aides explained, the new page that Obama meant to turn in relations with the Arab and Muslim worlds. Just as he did last week in Europe, Obama began the conversation by criticizing America. Asked about relations between Israel and the Palestinians and the appointment of George Mitchell as special envoy, President Obama said ” … what I told (Mitchell) is start by listening, because all too often the United States starts by dictating — in the past on some of these issues — and we don’t always know all the factors that are involved. So let’s listen.” Throughout the rest of the interview, Obama returned again and again to the word “respect,” stressing that his administration — unlike previous American presidents — would base relations with the Muslim world on “mutual respect.”

Dennis Prager: America Has a Naive President

“The basic bargain is sound: countries with nuclear weapons will move toward disarmament, countries without nuclear weapons will not acquire them.” — President Barack Obama, Prague, April 6, 2009

As far as nuclear weapons are concerned, the President of the United States wants America to disarm: “Countries with nuclear weapons will move toward disarmament.”

Chuck Norris: Is Obama Afraid of the J-Word?

According to a new national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, 11 percent of Americans still believe President Barack Obama is a Muslim. Seven percent of Democrats believe it. And nearly 20 percent of evangelicals do.

Thomas Sowell: Random Thoughts

Random thoughts on the passing scene:

I am so old that I can remember when music was musical.

Now that the federal government says that it will stand behind the warranties on General Motors’ automobiles, does that make you more likely or less likely to buy a car from GM? If you were a rising young executive with a promising future, would you be more likely or less likely to go to work for a company where politicians can fire you?

Lorie Byrd: Attacking The Tea Party Movement

Those on the left have spent so much time over the past eight years bashing George Bush that they are having trouble shifting gears. Instead of enjoying their big win in 2008 and going positive, following their leader Obama’s “hope and change” message, they are still tearing down anyone who doesn’t agree with them. The latest attack from the left is not aimed at the Republican party or Michael Steele or Rush Limbaugh, but at Democrat, Republican and Independent Americans across the country who have dared to organize “tea parties” to oppose rising taxes, more government control over private enterprise and less individual liberty.

Ed Morrissey: Europeans discover Obama’s arrogance

While the American media paints Barack Obama’s European tour as a balm on strained relations with EU allies, Europeans have a much different reaction to Obama today.  After Obama endorsed Turkey’s bid to enter the EU, the Continental grumbling has broken through in the media – and the political class.  Der Spiegel reports that German and French officials have begun complaining about Obama’s arrogance in injecting himself into a European decision, including French President Nicolas Sarkozy:

US President Barack Obama says Turkey’s future is in the European Union. Not everyone agrees. Numerous politicians in Germany have gone on the attack, and even French President Sarkozy is unimpressed. Turkey’s role at the NATO summit has soured the mood. …

House Ethics Comm. Is A Joke

In a pathetic attempt to appear effective, the joke of a House ethics committee has taken swift action against a congressman’s minor speeding infraction while it repeatedly ignores serious corruption allegations among several prominent lawmakers.

Gary Andres: Are You Laughing Now?
Comedy TV and the GOP.

A little less than a year ago, I participated in a meeting in Washington, D.C., with some prominent political analysts forecasting the 2008 election. One topic focused on trends in the youth vote. For Republicans, the patterns were ominous. George W. Bush lost to John Kerry among 18-29-year-olds by nine points (54 percent – 45 percent). Two years later in 2006, Democratic congressional candidates expanded that gap to 22 points, winning the younger demographic group on average 60 percent – 38 percent. And at this meeting in the summer of 2008, one analyst noted Barrack Obama might beat John McCain by over 30 points in the under-30 cohort. He was right. The Democratic presidential candidate’s margin surged to 34 points last November (66 percent – 32 percent) among 18-29-year-olds. Ouch!

Fred Barnes: The Master of Misdirection
How Obama maintains his popularity.

In football, it’s called misdirection. When the ball is snapped, offensive linemen pull from the line of scrimmage and head to the right or left. A running back takes off in the same direction. But it’s a deception. The play, a run or a pass, actually goes in the other direction. It’s a clever tactic–pretending to head one way while going another–that also works in politics.

President Obama is the master of misdirection. His skill in using this tactic is a key to his success as a candidate and to his popularity as president. He is a great salesman, marketing his product–the liberal agenda, plus a few add-ons–in a manner that disguises what he’s really up to.
