Message to Republicans: Prove Vice-President Biden Wrong

Washington – While out stumping for the President’s spending spree today, Vice-President Joe Biden predicted that more Republicans would vote for the Democratic stimulus bill. The Club for Growth urged all Republicans in the House and the Senate to prove the Vice-President wrong.

“The stimulus bill has changed little over the past day and a half as it has made its way through Congress,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “This conference report remains as badly flawed as it was when it was first proposed. At best, it is predicated on the discredited idea that we can spend our way out of a recession. This idea didn’t work for the U.S. during the Great Depression; it didn’t work for Japan in the 1990s; and it won’t work now. At worst, it represents a pent-up Democratic wish list, stuffed to the gills with wasteful spending and projects that don’t even pretend to be about stimulating the economy.”

“Save three Republican Senators, the GOP has demonstrated a commendable willingness to stand up for the American taxpayers who will be forced to pay for this monstrosity for years to come. We hope they will continue to stand strong. If President Obama is serious about crafting a genuine bipartisan compromise, he will have to offer Republicans and the American people something other than a liberal spending frenzy and a heaping pile of new debt.”
