Did you know that Barack Obama is our first truly American president?

You didn’t?

Well, according to Emmy Award winning commentator John Ridley he is.

The following insulting segment was aired January 22 on Los Angeles’s PBS station KCET (video embedded below the fold, h/t Hot Air via NB reader Thomas Stewart):

Every president to hold office has espoused some version of Americanism; the truths that we hold self-evident, even when those truths are not always in evidence. But for all their grand rhetoric and mostly good deeds, none was able to seal the deal on the trifecta of equality, plurality and socioeconomic ascendancy. Obama has. Obama is the more perfect union. He is a house united. Obama is the New Generation and the hot light of a dawn that goes way beyond clever phraseology of “Morning in America.”

Quite simply, quite plainly, just by virtue ofhis being, Obama is America, and the first true American to lead our nation.

Wow. I guess the previous 43 weren’t really Americans.

President’s spokesman cites ‘membership policies’ as explanation

At least three times racism has raised its head in the new administration of President Obama, and now his chief spokesman has cited “membership policies” as an explanation for the all-whites-are-banned practice of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs responded to the question from Les Kinsolving, WND’s correspondent at the White House, following the conclusion of today’s press briefing at the White House.

“To your knowledge has the president ever disagreed with the expressed hope that children ‘could live in a nation where they would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character’ as made by Dr. King,” Kinsolving asked.

Sure, it’s all well and good to demand cars get better gas mileage but to do so when Americans are already NOT buying cars; to do so when our own auto manufacturers are falling into bankruptcy; and to do so knowing full well the new efficiency requirements could tack on up to $10,000 to the price of each car is utter folly.

If people are not buying now, how many will they buy when the prices are higher?

President Barack Obama wants automakers to make greener cars at a time when General Motors and Chrysler are hanging by the thread of a massive government loan and auto sales have plummeted to their lowest levels in more than two decades.

Obama’s plans could bring smaller cars, more hybrids and advanced fuel-saving technologies to showrooms, but car shoppers will probably pay more upfront because the new rules are expected to cost the hamstrung industry billions of dollars.

“The consumer needs to understand that they will see significant increases in the cost of vehicles,” said Rebecca Lindland, an auto analyst for the consulting firm IHS Global Insight. Her firm estimated the upgrades could add $2,000 to $10,000 to the price of a vehicle.

But it gets worse. He also ordered the EPA to review whether states could set their own emissions standards to be tougher than federal standards.

Obama chooses Arab network for first TV interview

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) – President Barack Obama on Tuesday chose an Arabic satellite TV network for his first formal television interview as president, delivering a message to the Muslim world that “Americans are not your enemy.”

The interview underscored Obama’s commitment to repair relations with the Muslim world that have suffered under the previous administration.

The president expressed an intention to engage the Middle East immediately and his new envoy to the region, former Sen. George J. Mitchell, was expected to arrive in Egypt on Tuesday for a visit that will also take him to Israel, the West Bank, Jordan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

“My job to the Muslim world is to communicate that the Americans are not your enemy,” Obama told the Saudi-owned, Dubai-based Al-Arabiya news channel.

It is probably too early to get a good handle on what kind of president Barack Obama will turn out to be. After all, it’s been less than 4 days since he took the oath for keeps.

Still, the study of the American presidency is an examination of the exercise of power in a democratic republic. How does Obama turn his comfortable electoral victory into actionable policies and programs?

Taking the raw, unformed mandate of victory at the polls and shaping it into a club to get Congress and the various departments to do his bidding has been his first chore. In this, he has succeeded. He controls the agenda. His own party looks to him for leadership, while the Republicans — both for political and traditional reasons — are generally inclined to grant him the benefit of the doubt. This so-called “honeymoon” is nothing more than recognition by the opposition of political reality. The Republicans lost by near-landslide proportions, and now that his popularity has skyrocketed during the transition, to be seen hindering Obama is to be seen as obstructing the will of the people. At least, that’s the argument that Democrats would make.

It is nearly unanimous. The reason for the current financial mess isn’t over-leveraging, or criminally negligent management and Directors, or even an excess supply of millions of homes. It is that darn mark-to-market rule. Just ask Warren Buffet, Donald Trump and other financial geniuses. Even the journalists are on board…Steve Forbes, Ben Stein, Lou Dobbs, and (gasp) Bill O’Reilly. I haven’t heard Cavuto on the subject. He is usually the sharpest, most level-headed one of all, so I’m hoping he’s not on the same train. Politicians galore…no big surprise…anything to find an easy scapegoat.

My usual reaction to that kind of herd mentality is that if they all agree, they must be wrong. Yes, I’m that much of a cynic. But then I see that even Newt agrees. Wow. Maybe this time they are right. And then I start thinking. It is unlikely that a huge mess like this has a single cause. But imagine that we follow their advice. Instead of marking to market, let the firms carry bad paper at face value. Wait just a minute (I hear you cry)! That paper really isn’t so bad. Just because the collateral doesn’t cover the loan amount doesn’t mean the loan will go bad. Well, maybe you’re right. I know how you can prove it. Just buy the stuff at a 10% discount to face value. That should be a good cushion. Put your money where you mouth is or shut up!

Excellent article on the “gun show loophole” that is really a sham to begin with. Too bad there are people that do not understand how a gun show works.

I went to one here in Ontario, the Crossroads of the West Gun Show, and inquired as to the method of purchase for a firearm from a dealer there at the show.

It is exactly the same method as it would have been had I walked into his store in Riverside. Except that I could give him $100 there, do the paperwork for the background check and the requisite state and federal BS, and in ten days pick said firearm up after I proffered the rest of the money I owe for the firearm.

Nope. No loophole whatsoever. It’s a lie made up by the gn grabbers of the Brady bunch ilk to scare the idiots that don’t know any better.

Gun show sales not big source of problems

Recently, the state Crime Commission deadlocked over whether to recommend closing the so-called gun-show loophole. The issue has become a perennial at the General Assembly, which is considering the matter once again this year. Once again, legislators should vote no.

Licensed firearms dealers — those who buy and sell guns as a business — are required to conduct background checks on prospective buyers.

The “loophole” in question refers to the fact that individuals selling guns from their own private collection do not have to — either within gun-show venues, or in the parking lot, or in their own homes.

Gun-control advocates often muddy the issue by referring to “unlicensed dealers” at gun shows, of which there are indeed many. They sell holsters, flashlights, hunting knives, T-shirts, books, gun safes — even jewelry. But an unlicensed dealer who sold guns as a business would invite felony charges under federal law.

Gun-control advocates also suggest, albeit with scant evidence, that gun shows supply a significant share of the weapons used in crime.

Federal data indicate otherwise. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics report, “Firearm Use by Offenders,” only about 1 percent of guns used in crimes come from gun shows. In fact, most crime guns — 57 percent — come from just 1 percent of licensed dealers. Federal and state law-enforcement agencies should come down on those renegade dealers like a ton of bricks.

The midterm elections should be interesting, to say the least. If the Republicans want to add seats to either the Senate, or the House, then they need to come back to the root of the party. One word. Conservatism. The rest of that hogwash just needs to be flushed out of the party. That kiss your opponent’s ass in hope of gaining a crumb has got to go.

Tell the Democrats to get screwed and fight them on everything that they try to pass. That’s exactly what they did to the Republican Party. Stop kowtowing to these morons on the left and fight for less government, more tax cuts, and no bailout bullshit.

The media love to make comparisons between former President Bush and President Obama… one is hated, the other beloved. The fact is that at the outset of the Bush Administration, the former president attended a Democrat retreat as a show of goodwill and to try to set the tone for bipartisanship in Washington. President Obama, on the other hand, is showing his “bipartisanship” with his own version of “it’s my way or the highway” attitude.

My New Spread the Wealth Grading Policy

Good afternoon students! I’m writing you this email to announce that I’m making some changes in the grading policies I announced two weeks ago when I sent an email with an attached course syllabus. As you know, we now have a new president and I thought it would be nice to align our class policies with some of the policies he will be implementing over the next four years. These will be changes you can believe in and, I hope, changes that will inspire hope, which is our most important American value.

Previously, I announced that I would use a ten-point grading scale, which means that 90% of 100 is an “A,” 80% is a “B,” 70% is a “C,” and 60% is enough for a passing grade of “D.” I also announced that I will refrain from using a “plus/minus” system – even though the faculty handbook gives me that option.
