Since I Always Bitch About Politicians Monday, Jan 5 2009

Here’s a civics test that you can take to test your skills.

Drop your score in the comments section. I scored a 78.79%, or 26 out of 33.

In case you are too lazy to take the test, here’s a summary:

Of the 2,508 Americans taking ISI’s civic literacy test, 71% fail. Nationwide, the average score on the test is only 49%.

Less than half can name all three branches of the government.

Only 21% know where the phrase “government of the people, by the people, for the people” comes from.

Less than one in five know where the phrase “a wall of separation” between church and state comes from.

In case you were wondering, I know the answers to these and other questions posed. I second guessed myself on three, or four of the questions, which I instinctively knew, and changed my answer.

Go check it out.

Global Warming My Ass or Flatulence Makes My Bed Warm at Night. Monday, Jan 5 2009

Yeah. Globull Worming. Al attention whore Gore is wrong in more ways than I have fingers and toes to count them on. Here’s a huge one:

Sea Ice Ends Year at Same Level as 1979

Rapid growth spurt leaves amount of ice at levels seen 29 years ago.

Thanks to a rapid rebound in recent months, global sea ice levels now equal those seen 29 years ago, when the year 1979 also drew to a close.

Ice levels had been tracking lower throughout much of 2008, but rapidly recovered in the last quarter. In fact, the rate of increase from September onward is the fastest rate of change on record, either upwards or downwards.

The data is being reported by the University of Illinois’s Arctic Climate Research Center, and is derived from satellite observations of the Northern and Southern hemisphere polar regions.

Each year, millions of square kilometers of sea ice melt and refreeze. However, the mean ice anomaly — defined as the seasonally-adjusted difference between the current value and the average from 1979-2000, varies much more slowly. That anomaly now stands at just under zero, a value identical to one recorded at the end of 1979, the year satellite record-keeping began.

111th Congress. Worse than the Worst Congress Ever? Monday, Jan 5 2009

Nazi Pelousi is off to a fine start…

Hope and change my ass.

The 111th Congress is off to a fine start. Just remember, half the population couldn’t tell you how many branches of government there are. And they are directly responsible for reelecting these assholes time and time again.

Pelosi Erases Gingrich’s Long-Standing Fairness Rules

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.

Pelosi’s rule changes — which may be voted on today — will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America.”

In reaction, the House Republican leadership is sending a letter today to Pelosi to object to changes to House Rules this week that would bar Republicans from offering alternative bills, amendments to Democrat bills or even the guarantee of open debate accessible by motions to recommit for any piece of legislation during the entire 111th Congress. These procedural abuses, as outlined in the below letter obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, would also include the repeal of six-year limit for committee chairmen and other House Rules reform measures enacted in 1995 as part of the Contract with America.
