America Supports You: Singer Makes Injured Seabee’s Life Easier

By Samantha L. Quigley

WASHINGTON, June 8, 2007 – After having breakfast with some of her fans in Nashville, Tenn., yesterday, country music singer LeAnn Rimes, as one of her songs says, had absolutely “Nothin’ Better to Do” than present a handicap-accessible van to a severely injured veteran.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Peter Reid and his wife, Michele, attended Rimes’ fan club breakfast, part of the Country Music Association’s annual Music Festival. Little did they suspect the award-winning singer had more than an autographed photo for them.

“We were sitting by the table, and LeAnn Rimes walked up and introduced herself, like we didn’t know who she was,” Peter said. “She said she had a surprise for us outside.”

Waiting for them outside was a Chevrolet Uplander equipped with an automatic door and ramp, and other systems necessary to accommodate Peter’s wheelchair. Rimes presented them with the keys, then signed the back window of the vehicle.

The nautical blue vehicle has “all the goodies,” Peter said. A Chevrolet representative told the crowd and media gathered for the event that the vehicle had everything Peter needed to ride in comfort.

Peter, a Seabee with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14, was severely injured in May 2004 while serving in Anbar, Iraq. He suffered a severe brain injury, paralysis to the left side of his body and several blood clots caused by shrapnel lodged in his brain from the mortar attack, which killed five fellow Seabees and wounded 34 others. More.

Thank you LeAnn. You are a model for the rest of the celebrities in this country. And thank you Chevrolet.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice Petty Officer 1st Class Peter Reid.

San Franfreako at it again. Friday, Jun 8 2007

San Franfreako should be cut from the state. It should no longer be claimed as a part of Kalifornia, or the USA.

Pay attention to who is involved.

Daly backs move to ground Blue Angels show

SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) – The annual aerial show by the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels — a San Francisco tradition dating back to 1981 that pumps millions into the local economy — is running into opposition from three local peace advocacy groups that are calling for a permanent halt to the popular Fleet Week flyover.

CodePink, Global Exchange and Veterans for Peace, Chapter 69, are working with Supervisor Chris Daly on a Board of Supervisors resolution to address concerns over the Blue Angels.

Daly acknowledged he is considering a call to halt the flyovers because, he said, “they seem dangerous and unnecessary.” Daly said he plans on introducing the resolution as early as Tuesday, but is still drafting the language. A resolution is not legally binding, but states a board position.

The Blue Angels, a team of navy fighter pilots, fly over San Francisco during Fleet Week, which this year is scheduled for Oct. 4 through Oct. 9. For four of the six days, the flashy blue- and yellow-striped planes soar through the skies over the northern waterfront at speeds reaching 700 miles per hour, and perform such maneuvers as vertical rolls. As part of the show, six planes group together in tight formation to perform deft maneuvers.

D-Day Wednesday, Jun 6 2007

Today in 1944 was D-Day.

On June 6, 1944, a date known ever since as D-Day, a mighty armada crossed a narrow strip of sea from England to Normandy, France, and cracked the Nazi grip on western Europe. On this day the allies assaulted the beaches of Normandy at Omaha, Utah, Gold, Sword and Juno.

The men were a part of the greatest generation. Because of these men, and those like them, we are a great nation.

Light Postings Wednesday, Jun 6 2007

Been busy with my last two classes towards my BS in Business Management.

I have eight weeks to go and I am done! Woohoo!

To that end, my posts will be light until I am done. I will have plenty of writing to do in these two classes. Figures, the last two are heavy writing courses.

Republicans Revolt(ing) Friday, Jun 1 2007

I stated in an earlier post that I withdrew my Republican Party affiliation. I am still a conservative, but I no longer support the Party, or President Bush. I am including a few articles that I think hits the nail on the head. I find the Republican Party revolting in their stance on this issue. They have betrayed their base and it will reflect in their pockets and in the votes they receive.

Too Bad

By Peggy Noonan

President Bush has torn the conservative coalition asunder.

Friday, June 1, 2007 12:00 a.m. EDT

What political conservatives and on-the-ground Republicans must understand at this point is that they are not breaking with the White House on immigration. They are not resisting, fighting and thereby setting down a historical marker–”At this point the break became final.” That’s not what’s happening. What conservatives and Republicans must recognize is that the White House has broken with them. What President Bush is doing, and has been doing for some time, is sundering a great political coalition. This is sad, and it holds implications not only for one political party but for the American future.

RNC Outsources Phone Solicitation to DNC, Apparently

By Mary Katharine Ham

Well, either that, or the WSJ editorial board is manning the phones.

You heard yesterday that the RNC canned its in-house phone bank employees, partly due to an estimated 40% drop in small donations. Whoever they outsourced the job to is not gonna get those numbers back up.

I happened to be at my friend Emily Dunham’s house when the RNC called to see “at what level she was comfortable renewing her contribution.” It went a little something like this.

I am truly disappointed in President Bush. And to think I voted for him twice. You have betrayed this country Mr. President. Maybe the liberals were right, you are an idiot.
